The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic has been widespread, affecting the lives of every child and young person in the country.
As a partnership of children and young people's organisations we are calling for a new vision of childhood to support children, young people and their families to recover from the impact of COVID-19. But recovery must not mean going back to how things were before, with rising child poverty and services at breaking point.
These are the overarching principles and actions our organisations believe must be at the heart of the recovery process.
We've also been working in partnership to produce a set of briefings which build on these principles to begin to set out an approach to delivering a recovery which works for children across six key areas:
- Child poverty and social security
- Mental health and wellbeing
- Early years
- Supporting children in care and care leavers
- Safeguarding and child protection
- Returning to school.
This summary gives an overview of the plan and recommendations, and we've pulled together the full set of recommendations across all the briefings into a single document. There is much still to do but together we can ensure that the recovery process delivers a better childhood for the UK.
