Little Blossoms of Barrowford, Lancashire, show the steps they take to ensure the voice of each child is heard by creating opportunities for communication in many different ways.
At Little Blossoms we value that all children are unique, welcoming each child as an individual with their own ‘All about me’ pack, so we can support and work together with parents to provide the correct provision, support and learning opportunities they value for their children.
We strongly believe that children are partners in their own learning, and we inspire children to be confident, independent, sociable and love learning. We observe, listen, and respond to children throughout play and use these daily observations to really make sure the children’s voices, thoughts and ideas are promoted throughout our practice. We provide an enabling, curious environment where children feel listened to and feel free to truly express themselves.
We recognise that listening is not just about what children say, but the sounds they make, the drawings they create, any visual representation through their play and, of course, their body language.
We carefully take note and use props, picture prompts, various resources and books alongside routines, activities and general play to support, understand, appreciate, and celebrate diversity in our nursery, local community and wider world.
We teach children in a variety of ways to communicate their ideas and feelings and help children to show high levels of respect towards others which enables them to make choices, plans, and decisions.
Our nursery prides itself on a very family-centred, child-led approach, with each family and child’s voice being heard throughout.
