Who are we
We believe that disabled children and children with SEN should have the same rights and opportunities as other children, including the right to an education that helps them to reach their full potential.
Disabled children and children with SEN have the right to have their views heard, and these views are vital to the development of an inclusive society. The Special Educational Consortium (SEC) is a group of organisations who protect and promote the rights of disabled children and children with special educational needs to a high quality education which meets their needs. Our membership includes the voluntary and community sector, education providers and professional associations.
We work with the Department for Education, members of parliament, and other decision-makers when there are proposals for changes in policy, legislation, regulations and guidance that may affect disabled children and young people and those with SEN. Our Steering Group includes nationally recognised experts on issues including assessment and curriculum, school funding, the SEN legal framework, early years, and post-16 provision.
We provide an independent voice that supports the Government to develop policies that will benefit disabled children and young people and those with SEN and challenges them when they do not.
