A guide for practitioners
The EYFS sets the standards for development, learning and care of children from birth to age five.
The Statutory Framework for the EYFS requires that practitioners review a child’s progress and provide parents and carers with a short written summary of their development in three prime areas – personal, social and emotional development, physical development, and communication and language – when the child is aged between 24 and 36 months old.
Commissioned by the Department for Education, we have produced A Know How Guide: the EYFS progress check at two, which provides guidance for practitioners on how they might approach the review and examples of how settings currently provide information to parents.
Early Support
We offer a range of Early Support Materials to help families and practitioners working with children who have an identified condition, disability or impairment to record, to support and celebrate their early development and to identify areas where they may need extra support.
Parents can use our Early Years Developmental Journal and Quick Start Guide to track their child's progress. These resources are also useful for practitioners completing the EYFS progress check at two and have been closely linked with Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation.
Integrated Review
The integrated review brings together existing health and early education reviews for children at around two years of age including the Healthy Child Programme review at age two to two-and-a-half and the EYFS progress check at age two.
