Making it REAL training

Supporting Early Literacy training.

Evidence consistently shows the importance of parents as children's first educators, and of practitioners supporting parents in this role. The original REAL project has the highest effectiveness rating of 3 from the Early Intervention Foundation (EIF), with an RCT finding the programme to have a ‘statistically significant positive impact on a number of child outcomes’.

Engaging parents in their children's early literacy development has been shown to improve children's outcomes and is a valuable intervention for narrowing the gap between disadvantaged and other children.

Our training days are available as face-to-face training, but we are now also offering remote live training options. These sessions are interactive, replicating the benefits of face-to-face and collaborative training. They are accompanied by physical resource packs that attendees can use to design literacy activities for children and parents, taking into account the current government guidelines on coronavirus.

Finding out about Making it REAL (1-day course)

Making it REAL training enables practitioners to use REAL (Raising Early Achievement in Literacy) and hands over the REAL approach to parents and families, building confidence and knowledge to support the early home learning environment. The training includes information about using REAL to support work with two-year-olds.

Putting Making it REAL into practice (2-day course)

This two-day course further explores the Making it REAL approach and ORIM framework and offers support for planning a project using the approach, including information on evaluating impact.

'The trainer was an amazing facilitator, they covered all the things we identified and really delivered bespoke training. The trainer … adapted her practice very fast according to feedback and to our specific need. I can’t recommend REAL enough and the trainer’s facilitation of this training. I feel it will really change our planning, practice and delivery and consequently raise our children’s level of development in Literacy. Thank you.’
