Nearly 15,000 children in England are missing from education.
The results of our freedom of information request suggest that on any given day as many as 14,800 children are missing education in England, with the whereabouts of over 3,000 children completely unknown to their school or local authority.
Every child under the age of 16 should be receiving a 'suitable education', either through school, alternative provision or home education.
Those who are missing out are at significant risk of failing academically, are more likely to be not in eductaion, training or employment in later life, and may even be at risk of suffering physical or emotional harm.
