NCB was commissioned to carry out an evaluation of the Brighton Streets detached youthwork programme in 2024/25 by the Sussex Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP).

Brighton Streets is a citywide detached youth work programme, using bus-based and walking sessions in the local community. Its primary aim is to reduce violence through the delivery of early, relationship-based interventions with children and young people across Brighton and Hove.
While the findings showed an increase in recorded crime, this may have been due to youth workers supporting young people to report experiences of victimisation.
Stakeholders highlighted the importance of working with young people in a collaborative way before police or youth justice interventions were needed.
