The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence Guideline: Consultation with children and young people

National Children’s Bureau was commissioned by the National Guidelines Alliance (NGA) on behalf of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) to work with groups of children and young people from across England to gather their experiences, thoughts and opinions on healthcare. This work supported NGA’s development of the new NICE Guideline on babies, children and young people’s experiences of health. In total, NCB held 26 sessions with children and young people to hear their experiences of and views on healthcare.

NCB produced a report for NGA which included all the discussions from the focus groups and reference groups NCB hosted with children and young people around their health care experiences. To view the report, please download it from this page.

The full NICE guidelines, Babies, children and young people's experience of healthcare, are now published and can be viewed by clicking here.

NCB have produced a children and young people’s summary of the guideline and a healthcare booklet that children and young people can use to evaluate their healthcare experiences. Additionally, Poster 1 and Poster 2 have been produced based on the guideline and are aimed at practitioners and healthcare settings to support the involvement of children and young people in their healthcare to ensure a positive experience.
