Onder joined as an NCB Trustee on 1 January 2025.
Onder's journey in the UK as a social worker began back in February 2007, when he joined the London Borough of Hackney. Since then, his path has woven through various facets of Children and Families Social Care, encompassing roles that have allowed him to both practice and lead within local authority children's services.
His social work journey originally started in Turkey where he became a qualified social worker in 2003 and pursued a Master of Social Work degree with a focus on family welfare in 2005. This journey culminated in a Doctorate centred on child protection policies and practices in 2010. Before relocating to London, Onder dedicated himself to supporting asylum-seeking children and families, as well as those in residential care in Turkey. Since 2007, Onder's career has seen him navigate through multiple roles within London's local authority children's services, spanning referral and assessment, children in need and child protection, fostering, adoption, and post-permanency support. He has also had the opportunity to contribute as a Peer Reviewer and a Mock Inspector of Children's Social Care outside of London for a period.
Onder is working as the Deputy Director of Children's Services in a London borough. He continues to participate to LGA peer reviews. Onder loves working with the diverse community of compassionate and caring people. He is passionate about inclusion, social justice and has an unwavering commitment to children and families. Onder considers himself privileged to be part of a sector that tirelessly strives to enhance the life chances of disadvantaged and marginalised residents.
