Professor Alice Jones Bartoli is Deputy Director of Education and Early Years at the National Children’s Bureau with oversight of work spanning inclusion and SEND, mental health and well-being, anti-bullying and support for the home learning environment of babies and young children. As a Professor of Psychology in Education, she has spent her career working at the intersection of research, policy and practice to improve the experiences and outcomes of children and young people.
Her work takes an interdisciplinary approach, having trained in basic science methods before moving into more applied work, with a particular focus on children and young people at risk of social and academic exclusion. She works with local authorities, schools, alternative provision and third-sector organisations to translate research into practical approaches to improving school culture and children’s experiences.
Alice has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters and invited articles, was Editor-in-Chief of the British Journal of Educational Psychology, and has contributed to national and international work on evidence-informed policy, poverty, SEND and social exclusion.
She is particularly interested in how research can be developed and used to create more inclusive systems and environments in which children and families are heard, supported and able to thrive.
