A Day in The Life of an Intern
My name is Colette, and I am the current intern at the NCB NI office, employed to work on the LINKS project.
I started working for NCB in January, and I was over the moon to get the job! I have been interested in working in the voluntary sector for a long time, and after a year of volunteer work, I finally found this internship and it felt like fate. Having studied a degree in something entirely different, this internship has given me the experience I need to move forward within the sector, and I think it’s incredible that NCB are offering this opportunity to young people.
Every single day at NCB is different, and I think that’s why I love it so much- that and the amazing team, who have been nothing but welcoming since I started here! On a day-to-day basis, I can be doing anything from data entry or audio transcribing, to being out and about meeting grant holders, helping organise and run events, or filming video content. I just created a video for the Anti-Bullying Week 2018 Celebration event which you can watch here.
The main work I am involved with is supporting the LINKS project, which is a National Lottery Community Fund project, and involves assisting many different charities across Northern Ireland who have received grants. This has to be my favourite part of my role, as it has opened my eyes to the great work across the region. Before I started working at NCB, I had no idea how much life-changing work really goes on in the voluntary sector, and it has given me great hope for the future and made me excited for what lies ahead. I have enjoyed every minute of my experience at NCB so far and thankfully I’m only half way through!
