Invisible Traffick NI is using a £199,840 grant to run their ‘Journey to Empowerment Project’ over the next three years to reduce the chances of young people aged 11-18 living in care homes becoming victims of human trafficking.
The programme has been developed to raise awareness of the dangers of human trafficking through a series of interactive workshops that will be delivered in care home settings, foster care homes and secure units across Northern Ireland.
The workshops will challenge the young people’s understanding of human trafficking, how it can affect them and how they can learn to protect themselves to ensure they do not become victims of this crime.
The aim of the project is to empower young people, so they recognise the signs and indicators of human trafficking and to ultimately protect themselves as they move out of the care system and lead independent lives.
