HERe NI is using a £499,861 to run their ‘Building Resilience Levels of Young People from Same Sex Families’ project over the next five years.
The project aims to improve the lives of young people aged 8-25 who come from a same-sex family in Northern Ireland by enhancing their support structures at home, school, college and employment.
The project offers one-to-one support helping with stress management and building confidence, support hubs in Belfast, Newry and Foyle for young people and their primary carers to communicate in a proactive and positive way, education to develop young people’s understanding of those from same-sex families and to create a toolkit filled with information and resources to assist those engaging with young people from a same-sex family.
The project is initially being rolled out online and via telephone until social distancing restrictions under COVID-19 are lifted. It aims to address issues of social isolation, invisibility, alienation and marginalisation.
