Our research shows how the Integrated Review at 2–2½ was carried out in a number of test sites to inform the wider roll-out across local areas.
Our research looked at the experiences of a selection of areas as they combined the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Progress Check at age two with the Healthy Child Programme (HCP) 2–2½ year health and development review.
The full report was published in November 2014.
We carried out interviews and discussion groups with managers, operational staff and practitioners involved in the implementation of the Integrated Review.
- Different ways of bringing the two reviews together were tested and found to be successful. These included involving early years and health staff in joint meetings with parents, and communicating and sharing information before, during and/or after implementation.
- In most areas, practitioners thought that the Integrated Review had improved joint working, mutual understanding, working relationships, and to some extent information sharing between health and early years staff.
- Practitioners and parents also felt the combined review had more consistency than two separate reviews.
- Alongside the report, we published recommendations for local areas and a pack of supporting resources for them to use.
