Participation report 2023-24

The voices and experiences of children and young people are at the heart of NCB, driving forward our specialist membership groups, our policy influencing work, and our engagement with the children’s sector.

In the twelve months to March 2024, the total number of children and young people we engaged through our advisory groups and commissioned work is 1,302: over six children and young people for every member of staff at NCB.

Last year, young people from across our networks provided input to the Department for Education; they worked with the University of Lancaster on developing a toolkit on health research; they came together for our sixth annual Youth Voice Matters conference; they wrote, recorded and produced episodes for the Our Turn To Talk podcast; they won The Children’s Achievement Award at the Children and Young People Now Awards 2023. That’s not all: you will find much more in the pages of this report.

This document is an overview of our work with children and young people over the twelve months to March. It showcases how their creativity, focus and invaluable contributions have helped guide our work to continue improve the lives of babies, children and young people across the country.

We couldn’t do it any other way: in our Young Advisors’ own words, “We are the ‘C’ in NCB.”
