Philippa joined our Participation team in 2017 to support the Making Participation Work programme. As well as supporting the FLARE disabled children and young people’s group and developing resources for professionals, she now works on participation across NCB. This includes leading the Young NCB membership and YNCB Advisory Group, supporting the Young Research Advisers and enabling children and young people’s involvement in external projects. She also leads on developing NCB’s internal processes related to participation.
Before joining CDC, she co-ordinated and supported a group of young people with disabilities to act as peer researchers, influencing local authority decisions by finding and sharing the views of other young people. She has also worked on children’s rights at the international level, supporting a large scale capacity development project across East Africa and Eastern Europe.
Her interest in disabled children’s rights has come from her work developing child-centred learning methods in a variety of formal and informal education settings, both in the UK and further afield. She has a particular interest in supporting the voices of children who are non-verbal and/or have low literacy.
