Ed joined NCB in January 2017 on a maternity cover contract after working for the past six years as a freelance research consultant for survey organisations (NatCen Social Research, TNS BMRB and Ipsos MORI).
Ed previously worked at the Audit Commission where he led research projects on tackling domestic violence, managing with less and measuring value for money in local public services.
Prior to that, Ed worked in survey research at NatCen (where he led the government’s Citizenship Survey) and BMRB (where he led the Connexions Service customer satisfaction survey, a study of the costs of schooling and feasibility studies for surveys of asylum seekers, self-report offending and interventions with offenders on probation. He has also worked at the Home Office (on community penalties and prisons research), the NHS (public health research), local government (policy review) and academia (a somewhat esoteric content analysis of Irish election manifestos from the 1980s).
