About Us

DIANI is a joint project between NCB Northern Ireland and
Barnardo's Northern Ireland and is a practical response to
recommendations from a piece of research conducted by NCB
Northern Ireland called "New to Northern Ireland. A study of the
issues faced by migrant, asylum seeking and refugee children in
Northern Ireland". The research highlighted key issues for children
and practitioners and an agenda for action to meet the needs
highlighted in the report.
Agenda for Action
- Strategic leadership, to influence policy development and
oversee effective planning of services
- Information Hub, to map existing resources, offer a signposting
service, collate evidence of good practice, be alert to emerging
trends and aid in the implementation of strategic plans
- Practice Development and Advocacy, through a practitioners
network
- Diversity and Cultural Awareness Training
- Interim Coordinator, to lead on the implementation of the
recommendations
Both NCB Northern Ireland and Barnardo's Northern Ireland have
been exploring the issues highlighted in the report, they were able
to secure funding to recruit a project manager for 18 months to
lead on the implementation of the recommendations of the
research.
Project Steering Group
DIANI has a project Steering group who meet every 10 weeks to
inform the work of the project, disseminate information in their
own organisations, and ensure close links to existing provision and
practitioners.
