Training & Events
A range of professionals get involved in teaching sex and
relationships education (SRE) and providing one-to-one advice to
children and young people; including teachers, learning
mentors, school nurses, youth workers and outreach workers.
To support the continued professional development (CPD) of
professionals there is a range of training opportunites
available both locally and nationally. Throughout the year there
are events such as conferences, seminars and
workshops organised by the Sex Education Forum, our members and
others.
Local training
There may be training
opportunities available in your local area such as:
- in-house training organised by individual schools, colleges or
youth centres
- multi-disciplinary training organised by the primary care trust
or local authority
- training run by local voluntary sector agencies
To find out more about local training opportunities speak to one of
a number of lead professionals whose contact details should be

- Teenage Pregnancy Coordinator or Manager

National Training
Training on SRE can range from one day sessions to year
long programmes. Many SEF member organisations provide training
including:
PSHE CPD programme
Teachers and nurses can apply to do a national programme of
continuing professional development (CPD) in personal, social,
health and economic (PSHE) education- which includes SRE. The
programme is university accredited and participants can gain
credits at Masters level. You can find out more about this from

Sexual Health courses accredited by the University of
Greenwich.

Core competencies in sexual health for youth workers
7 day accredited training programme run by FPA in
collaboration with the National Youth Agency.
