The Sex Education Forum (SEF) is extremely disappointed that
the clauses on PSHE and SRE have been dropped from the Children,
Schools and Families Bill following the debate in the House of

Children, Schools and Families Bill (April
2010)
The Children, Schools and Families Bill was given Royal
Assent on 8 April 2010 - thus making it an Act. The clauses
relating to PSHE and SRE were dropped from the Bill. To read the
transcripts of the debates and the final version of the Act go

Parliament website. The Sex Education Forum have developed a
SRE briefing for Parliamentarians which is free to

Teenage pregnancy (February and March
2010)
The latest
statistics show a 3.9% decrease in under-18 teenage conceptions
between 2007 and 2008. Proposals
for the teenage pregnancy strategy beyond 2010 were announced
in March and a consultation was launched, which closed in
May.
New Sex and Relationships Education Guidance
(January 2010)
The Sex Education Forum welcomes this much needed guidance on SRE,
and encourages all those involved in delivering SRE in schools to
get involved in the consultation, which will run until Monday 19
April. The results of the consultation will be available on
the DCSF website later
this year.
SEF welcomes PSHE commitment in
government's 21st century schools White
Paper (July 2009)
The Sex Education Forum (SEF), based at NCB, today welcomes the
government's renewed commitment to making personal, social, health
and economic (PSHE) education, which includes sex and relationships
education, a compulsory subject in schools – and a guarantee for
every pupil.
Forum welcomes McDonald
Review (April 2009)
Sir Alasdair McDonald has published his report into how PSHE
should be incorporated into the curriculum.
SRE Review report published -
PSHE to become statutory (October 2008)
The government has announced that PSHE, including SRE, will become
a statutory part of the curriculum for Key Stages 1 to 4 in
England. The move comes in response to the SRE Review, and the
report from the Advisory Group on Drug and Alcohol Education.

Pregnancy rates fall (February 2008)
New statistics from the Office for National Statistics show the
biggest fall for five years.
Review of sex education
strategy (February 2008)
The coordinator of the Sex Education Forum has been invited to join
the steering group for the government review of SRE.
SRE Audit Toolkit now
available (March 2008)
A new resource from the Forum will help schools to find out what
young people think of their SRE lessons and their suggestions for
improvements.
Call for EU to fund sexuality
education in the South (February 2008)
A coalition of European health and sexuality groups met with MEPs
to argue for resources for comprehensive sexuality education in the
South.
Forum Supports UKYP
Campaign (February 2007)
The UK Youth Parliament has launched a campaign for statutory SRE,
based on research on what young people think of their experiences
of SRE.
