External visitors and sex and relationships
education
External visitors can have a valuable role in enhancing teaching
and learning of sex and relationships education (SRE). School
nurses and health professionals can inspire young people with the
confidence to use local health services – they can also provide
invaluable training sessions for teachers. Theatre in education and
creative arts specialists can bring an exciting dynamic and new
learning style – and there are ways of extending their educational
value through good planning with the school. Hosting a visitor also
gives children and young people a chance to learn about other
people’s lives and develop social and communication skills.
This new resource explores ‘why’ and ‘how’ visitors can work
with schools, sets out roles and responsibilities and includes
case-studies and practical scenarios.
