Nature Play
Maintenance guide
Lisa Davis, Adam White and Jane Knight
Children play in many different types of wild and semi-wild places. These spaces are important in offering children and young people access to nature and promoting their engagement with the natural world. Nature Play is aimed at those responsible for developing, delivering and maintaining innovative natural play spaces.
Used in conjunction with Play England's publication Design for Play: A guide to creating successful play spaces, this guide will support local authorities in introducing nature play into their parks and other play spaces.
It highlights the need for commissioners and designers to consider the management and maintenance implications at the start and throughout the development of a new play space, as well as to identify procedures to support the ongoing maintenance of these play areas and ensure that consideration is given to ongoing revenue funding for maintenance, repairs or replacement.
