Early Years Peer to Peer Support

The Early Years Peer to Peer Support Programme, funded by the Department for Education, was launched in April 2011 to provide a package of tailored support to address issues of quality in the early years sector. The programme was set up by the Early Childhood Unit at NCB in partnership with the Centre for Excellence and Outcomes (C4EO) and was designed to improve outcomes for young children and their families. The package of support was delivered by a team of early years sector specialists to local authorities and on a few occasions to other early years organisations such as social enterprises or private nursery chains. Since the programme was launched 80 assignments have been allocated to local authorities and organisations across the country.

The programme was successfully completed in March 2013 and was well received and valued by early years services across the country. Building on the success of the Peer to Peer Programme and in response to popular demand for the Making it REAL training, ECU is now offering a two day consultancy and training package for early years services and schools to commission.

Evaluation of the Peer to Peer Support Programme
The NCB Research Centre was commissioned by the Early Childhood Unit at NCB to carry out an independent evaluation of the effectiveness and impact of the Peer to Peer Support Programme. This report presents the findings from an online end-of-assignment survey and five case studies to explore how local authorities used the Peer to Peer Support and any impacts it was perceived to have.
