Primary Care Trust Charter

English Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) can sign up to EDCM’s PCT Charter. The Charter is a series of specific commitments EDCM is asking PCTs to make.

By signing the PCT Charter, PCTs are committing to make health services for disabled children a priority. The Charter should be signed by the PCT Chair.

Currently there are 80 PCTs signed up to the PCT Charter – and we need your help to build on this number!

You can view whether your PCT has signed up here.

Charter 2010

EDCM published a new version of the Primary Care Trust Charter in spring 2010. This maintains the same commitments as previous versions but allows PCTs to commit to implementing the Charter commitments within 'one year of signing'. You can download the new Charter here

Take Action!

Contact your Primary Care Trust to find out what they are doing about the Primary Care Trust Charter. If your PCT has not yet signed up you can send them an email to encourage them to do so. If it has already signed up then find out if they have an implementation or delivery plan to put the Charter commitments into place.

Background Information

The PCT Charter is framed around the elements of Standard 8 of the National Service Framework for Children (NSF), which deals specifically with support for disabled children and children with complex health needs.

PCTs may find it helpful to download Standard 8 and its Audit Tool when considering delivery of the Charter.
