Health and Social Care Bill
2011
In January 2011 the Coalition Government introduced the Health
and Social Care Bill. The Health and Social Care Bill sets out a
major restructure of the NHS. Groups of GPs will take over
responsibility for commissioning of most health services and PCTs
and SHAs will be abolished. Local authorities will establish health
and wellbeing boards as part of a new statutory framework for
cooperation between councils and health agencies. Mechanisms for
patient involvement will also be reformed as local HealthWatch
organisations are established with input into local strategic
planning and a formal relationship with the health and social care
inspections regime.
