Make a pledge to
play
Figures released by the British Toy
and Hobby Association (BTHA) and Play England show that parents
feel their children are not having enough playtime, with the
average child having just over one hour each day. The BTHA has
partnered with Play England to ask parents to `Make a Pledge' to
allocate more of their children's time each day to playing. Parents
can make their pledge via Facebook and will be
able to get ideas on the Make Time 2 Play website.

Playing into the Future – surviving and thriving
4-7 July 2011 – Cardiff City Hall, Wales
The website
is now live for the International Play Association’s (IPA)
triennial world conference, which takes place next year in Wales.
The conference will focus on the theme of play in the future, and
explore the ways to create a future where playing is valued and
where every country and neighbourhood upholds all children’s right
to time, freedom, and a safe enough environment for play. The
conference takes place over four days, offering delegates the
opportunity to share evidence, and experience examples of good
practice with colleagues from around the world. Registration opens
from 1 September 2010, and the deadline for abstracts and proposals
is 10 November 2010.
Support Play England’s
manifesto: Help us give children back their
childhood
Play England’s Manifesto for children’s play has
already received a huge amount of support from individuals,
organisations, local councillors and MPs – but more is needed!
Getting as many people as possible to support the campaign will
help strengthen our voice to make play a policy priority, and help
us work towards a society that prioritises children’s need and
right to play. To download and endorse the manifesto, and for
further ways to get involved in the campaign, visit the Play
England website.
