Welcome to Care Planning for Looked After Children. This toolkit has been written for all practitioners, carers and managers in agencies working with and caring for looked after children. It contains guidance and information on care planning, three training programmes, activities and presentations, a glossary and references.

After reading the Terms and Conditions of use for this toolkit, the best place to start is Care Planning and Review Guidance, which outlines the guidance and background to the care planning and review process.

If you want to go straight to a particular section, you can find your way via the navigation buttons at the top of the page and the menus on each page, or by looking at the sitemap.

The training materials section, which contains links to the guidance, will assist all workers, managers and carers to implement the guidance, and improve their practice.

The toolkit covers the two-day training programme and alternative programmes which may be more suitable for some agencies. These programmes use the core activities and there are a few additional activities which can replace core activities.

A literature review is also attached for those who want to have more detail concerning the literature and evidence base for this work.

There is a glossary to clarify the terms used and to help those who may be less familiar with them and a bibliography full of useful resources. There is also a list of helpful web resources.

A tool to assist authorities to evaluate improvements to their care planning and review is also included.
