Taskforce on climate change
Thursday 13 August 2009
The joint ministerial Third Sector Taskforce
on Climate Change, the Environment and Sustainable Development was
established in March 2009 to accelerate commitment and action on
climate change and sustainability throughout the third sector.
Jo Butcher, assistant director for health, wellbeing and
environment, is NCB's lead on sustainable development and the
taskforce's sole youth sector representative.
The taskforce has formed three working groups: Third Sector
Leadership; Jobs, Procurement and Service Delivery; and
Communities. Butcher has convened a working group to identify key
learning and messages from activity within the children and young
people's sector on sustainable development, which she will feed
into the taskforce.
She said: "This group is exploring the important contribution
that children and young people make to leadership on sustainable
living and climate change nationally and in their communities. They
have a significant stake in decisions and must be involved at all
levels, utilising third sector organisations' expertise in
involving them."
NCB also co-manages the Building a Climate Smart Future project
with the Institute for Development Studies, funded by the Baring
Foundation. Delivery partners are Action For Children, the
Pre-school Learning Alliance, and The National Youth Agency.
