Former Young NCB member appointed Youth Advisor to UNICEF Board of Trustees
Wednesday 14 October 2009
NCB would like to congratulate former Young
NCB member, Emily Middleton, 19, has been appointed as one of the
first UNICEF Youth Advisors to the Board of Trustees. Emily will
join 18 year old, Hannah Coakley in this exciting new role which
illustrates the importance of youth participation in organisations
that deliver for young people.
Emily, from Derbyshire was a member of Young NCB from August
2004 until January 2008. She took an active role as one of four
young Board of Management Members at NCB and was a member of Young
NCB's Advisory Group, helping to steer Young NCB's work alongside
other young members. Emily's active work for NCB involved a speech
at NCB's Summer reception and Annual General meeting,
co-facilitating a children's rights workshop in Manchester, and
speaking at a national conference on the Youth Green Paper in
2005.
Emily's former leadership and extensive experience of youth
participation at Young NCB will place her in good stead for her
role at UNICEF, where she will be involved in attending UNICEF
Board meetings with Trustees to enable strategic overview and
guidance for the organisation, as well as advising on and
representing UNICEF's work.
Speaking of her appointment, Emily says, "I'm very excited to
have been appointed as a youth advisor to the UNICEF UK Board of
Trustees. I hope the skills and knowledge I gained through being
a NCB Young Board member will help me in my new role. At NCB,
I learned how valuable it can be to involve young people in the
highest levels of decision-making. I hope that Hannah and I will be
able to bring a fresh perspective to Board discussions, as well as
promoting youth participation both inside and outside of UNICEF
UK."
