Wednesday 14 January 2009
Playday, the annual celebration of children's
right to play, takes place on Wednesday 5 August 2009, with the
theme Make time! This year we're asking everyone to make time for
play - from parents, carers and teachers to policymakers and
planners. Everyone can make time to support children's right
to play.
Play England's Amy Little, who co-ordinates the campaign,
said:
"In our busy and overscheduled lives it'seasy to prioritise
other things and to think play is something children just do.
However, children's time and space to play is decreasing. This
year's campaign calls on everyone to make time to ensure children
get time and space to play."
Hundreds of fantastic events will be taking place across the UK
to celebrate Playday, from small-scale neighbourhood get-togethers
to large-scale public events. Play England will be releasing
specially commissioned research on this year's "Make time!"
theme.
Playday 2008 was a huge success, with over 550 registered events
nationwide and more than a quarter of a million children attending.
