NCB joins climate change task force
Thursday 4 June 2009
Environment Secretary Hilary Benn has
announced that Jo Butcher, NCB's assistant director of health,
wellbeing and environment, is to be one of 16 members of the Third
Sector Task Force on climate change, the environment and
sustainable development.
The aim of the task force is to develop a vision and an
action plan for wider third sector involvement in climate change,
the environment and sustainable development. The action plan will
identify and recommend long-lasting environmental actions for
organisations across the sector.
Butcher said: "Climate change affects the children's sector in
terms of the services it provides, its ability to
deliver these services, and the costs of future problems arising
from climate change. If we are smart, climate change can be an
issue that unites us all in action to address a range of
social, economic, public health and political issues."
The task force is made up of 16 individuals from across
the third sector and will have both ministerial and third sector
chairs. Green Alliance and the National Council for Voluntary
Organisations are acting as the secretariat.
